After School Numeracy - We Offer 3 New Programs!

The after school numeracy program is dSI-Numeracy-2.jpgesigned to incrementally improve the elementary and beginner high school students' skills in math.

Elementary School Numeracy
Students currently at the elementary levels, grade 7 and grade 8 can get extra help with math after school.

Secondary School Numeracy
Students currently at the secondary school level grade 9 can get the help they need with mathematics. At the grade 9 level, students are learning the fundamentals of mathematics.

Students with a strong understanding of these critical skills are better positioned for the rest of their secondary school career and typically get higher marks.

How are we doing so far?

Our CCE Student Improvement Programs have tremendous success with improving the academic skills of struggling students. Parents, students and instructors all concur that the after school student programs work effectively.

What do people say about our programs?

"I have more confidence; I can do the work; I am not nervous now." -Student

"Excellent program; highly effective." -Parent

"I was able to give my lower level students strategies to hep them in the classroom. I could observe their confidence levels increase more and more each session." -Instructor

"The Grade 7 and 8 After School Numeracy programs have been developed to enhance numeracy skills that classroom teachers have identified as necessary for students to be successful in all strands of numeracy at the intermediate level." - Steve Johnston, Writer - Grade 7 & 8 After School Numeracy Programs.

How to Get Started

The After School Numeracy programs consist of 10 sessions. Each class is an hour and a half and runs outside of the regular school day. This program is available all year from September 2005 through June 2006.

The principal, in consultaion with teachers and parents, will identify students eligible for the after school numeracy program.

Together we can help struggling students become extraordinary students.

After School student improvement programs are dependent upon securing sufficient student enrolment in classes.

After School Literacy is FREE

CCE Remediation Programs are ministry funded and support the day school program by offering after school or summer instruction that is explicit, focused and targeted where students can improve their literacy and numeracy skills in an innovative environment.

Principals and Vice-Principals along with staff work closely with CCE to determine how to best take advantage of these valued learning opportunities for our HWDSB students.

CCE offers thanks and appreciation to all HWDSB educators who access the numerous modules and wishes them continued success as we strive for improved student performance and positive relationships together.
