We are offering a Summer School program that can help you repeat a course, upgrade a mark, transfer courses or take a new credit course.

UPGRADE OR RECOVER A CREDIT

Did you fail a course? Need to upgrade a mark?
_SS2.pngStudents who have successfully completed a course but would like to upgrade their mark and consolidate their skills, or students who have not successfully completed a course can qualify for an upgrading opportunity at Summer School.

Not on the right track?
Summer School offers Transfer courses.
A transfer course allows a student to move from one stream to another, i.e.) College to University or Applied to Academic. All Transfer courses are worth .5 credits upon successful completion. Course MCR3K3 is only worth .25 credits.

NEW CREDIT
New credit course at Summer School.
Students not upgrading, are allowed to take new credit courses. Each New credit courses are worth 1 credit. Wouldn't it be nice to be one credit closer...

eLEARNING
Many new courses are available!
Students taking an eLEARNING course must register on Wednesday June 3 or Thursday June 4 between 3:00 pm and 8:00 pm at Red Hill Learning Centre. $25.00 (CASH ONLY) Consumable Fee payable at Registration.

SUMMER CO-OP - Day School Students only!
Students must register with their home school Co-op Department and then attend face to face registration on Wednesday June 3 or Thursday June 4 between 3:00 pm and 8:00 pm at Red Hill Learning Centre. $10.00 (CASH ONLY) Consumable Fee payable at Registration.



When and Where are the courses held?

New Credit Courses

When:  

  • Thursday, July 2 - Tuesday, July 28, 2009 (8:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.)

Where:   

  • Westdale Secondary School - 700 Main St. West. (at the corner of Main & Longwood Rd.)
  • Red Hill Learning Centre - 300 Albright Rd. (at the corner of Mt. Albion Rd. & Albright)

Upgrade & Credit Recovery Courses

When:      

  • Thursday, July 2 - Tuesday, July 14, 2009 (8:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.)

Where:      

  • Barton Secondary School - 75 Palmer Rd. (Near the corner of Mohawk & Upper Gage)

What are the registration fees?

"Visa Students” and “Visitors to Canada ” must pay fees at the Board Assessment Centre .

There is a $80 refundable textbook deposit (cash only) payable during the second day of class for repeat, transfer and upgrade courses and on the third day of class for new credit courses. 

A $10 (cash only) non-refundable consumable fee will be payable at registration for courses at Barton, Westdale & Summer Co-op.  A $25.00 (cash only) non-refundable consumable fee will be payable at registration for courses taken at Red Hill and in the eLEARNING format.

When and Where can I register?

Registration Dates, Times & Sites:

  • Wednesday, June 3 & Thursday June 4 (3:00 - 8:00 pm) Summer School, eLEARNING & SUMMER CO-OP at Red Hill Learning Centre
  • Tuesday June 23 (3:00-8:00 pm) ~ Westdale Only
  • Wednesday, June 24 - (3:00 - 8:00pm)  Barton Secondary, Red Hill & Westdale Secondary - All Summer School Courses
  • Thursday, June 25 - (3:00 - 8:00pm) Barton Secondary & Red Hill  - All Summer School Courses

Registration forms will be available at School Guidance Offices, our website and CCE Red Hill Learning Center
Only Adults can take a second course in August!!!


warning.pngALL DAY SCHOOL STUDENTS MUST HAVE THEIR APPLICATION SIGNED/STAMPED BY THEIR SCHOOL AUTHORITY
(Principal or Counsellor).  All other students need an official transcript or final report card which proves that they have the necessary requirements and/or prerequisites for the course they wish to take.

What is the attendance policy?

The attendance policy for Upgrade & Credit Recovery courses allow for ONE absence. After that the student will be removed from class.

The attendance policy for NEW Credit courses allows for THREE absences. After that the student will be removed from class.

To be eligible for a credit, students will be required to attend the full session and write the final exams as scheduled.  There will be no exceptions. Please plan accordingly.

Unacceptable behaviour will result in the student being withdrawn from the course.  Plagiarism or cheating will lead to immediate withdrawal from the course.

Availability:
The Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board reserves the right to cancel, combine or relocate classes due to insufficient enrolment at a location.  Students are encouraged to identify a second choice.
